1. The location of the hip joint

The hip joint is one of the important joints in the human body, and is located between the head of the femur bone (femoral neck) and the acetabulum (hip socket) of the pelvis. Specifically, it is located at the junction of the hip bone and femur on the side of the body.

3. Major nerves in the hip

The major nerves around the hip joint are essential for controlling motor and sensory functions. Major nerves in this region include sciatic nerve, femoral nerve, and obturator nerve.
First, the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve that runs from the lower back to the foot, and controls hip, knee, and foot movements. When this nerve is compressed, it can cause sciatica.
Next, the femoral nerve comes out of the lumbar spine and runs to the front of the thigh, and mainly controls the quadriceps femoris muscle and psoas to adjust hip flexion and knee extension. This plays an important role in walking and sitting movements. Finally, the obturator nerve passes through the inside of the pelvis and controls the hip joint and adductor femoral muscle. This nerve helps the hip joint to invert and also provides sensation in the hip joint and inner thigh.
